Immune system, slightly tonifying
Nervous system, promotes better sleep at night when taken during the day (brings energy inside)
Also known as the “indian ginseng” yogis have used this herb to keep awake, but not overly stimulated. Withania sominifera works as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor, thereby increasing the availability of dopamine, a neurotransmitter. It has also appeared to mimic the action of the neurotransmitter GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid) in relaxing the body. Tea prepared from the plant can be flavored with spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and nutmeg.
Flavor: bitter, sweet
